How it works

What polyswiss is, and how it works

polyswiss is a Swiss virtual prediction market. You trade virtual shares — never real money — on what happens next in news, sport, weather and Swiss public life, and the people who call it right get paid out. It's built to feel like a game and to reward being right, not spending.

From sign-up to payout in four steps

  1. Create a free account and confirm your email. You start with 1,000 virtual coins — a one-time gift. If you ever run low, you can reset your account back to 1,000 to keep playing.
  2. Pick a market and a side you believe in, then buy shares at the price the crowd is quoting. Every trade nudges that price — the market's live read on the odds.
  3. When the market closes, polyswiss resolves it from the source named in the market and records the evidence. Trading stops at close; nothing you do afterwards changes the result.
  4. Hold to the close and every share on the winning side pays out 100 coins, while the rest expire at zero. You don't have to wait, though — sell any time before close to lock in a profit or cut a loss. Your track record updates either way.

A prediction market, played with virtual coins

A prediction market turns a question about the future — "Will it snow in Zürich on Christmas Day?", "Will the Nati reach the quarter-finals?" — into a market you can take a position on. On polyswiss the only currency is virtual coins. They are given to you for free, they have no cash value, and they can never be bought, sold or cashed out. The reward for a good call is more coins, a better track record and bragging rights — nothing more, and that is the point.

How prices and payouts work: an order book

Every outcome trades as shares priced between 1 and 99 coins. A share's price is the crowd's read on the odds — a share at 60 means the market puts the outcome at about 60% — and it moves as people buy and sell, not because a bookmaker set it. You trade against other players on an order book: buy a share when you think it's underpriced, and sell it back any time before the market closes to lock in the difference. When the market resolves, each share on the outcome that happened is worth 100 coins and every other share is worth nothing. There is no house cut: coins only ever move between players. Buy a likely outcome and you win often but small; buy a long shot near zero and you win rarely but large.

Where the markets come from

Markets are curated and created by polyswiss from public events — Swiss politics, sport, weather, crypto, local life and culture — and each one names, in its description, the exact source and criteria that will decide it. They are resolved automatically against that source as soon as the result is official, and the evidence is recorded on the market so anyone can check how a call landed. Where an outcome is genuinely ambiguous, or a market was set up in error, we void it and refund what everyone paid in.

No real money — a social game under Swiss law

polyswiss never sells coins, and coins can never be turned into money, goods or prizes. Because nothing of monetary value is ever at stake, polyswiss operates as a social game and not as gambling under the Swiss Federal Act on Gambling (Geldspielgesetz / BGS). This is a deliberate design choice, not a loophole: the whole product is built around the idea that the only thing on the line is being right.

Built to reward calibration, not spending

Because we can never sell you more coins, we have no reason to push you toward risky play — and we don't. Accuracy, not raw winnings, is the headline statistic on your profile. A daily coin cap models healthy play even with virtual money, there is no "buy more coins" button anywhere, and per-category leaderboards mean you can be known for being sharp on Swiss politics or the weather rather than just for staking the most.
